Improve your Self-Confidence with Cosmetic Nose Surgery

Your nose is the focal point of your face, and as such, it gets a lot of attention. If you’re unsatisfied with the appearance of your nose, it may lead to social anxiety/awkwardness and lowered confidence and low self-esteem. Additionally, septal deviation or a “crooked nose” may impair breathing. Whether the concerns about your nose are the result of injury or simply an unbalanced aesthetic appearance, cosmetic surgery of the nose, or rhinoplasty, may be a good solution. If you are having trouble breathing, you may be a candidate for a septoplasty or functional rhinoplasty.

If you are interested in exploring your options for cosmetic nose surgery, a consultation with Dr. Stephen M. Becker, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon in our comfortable Alcoa, Tennessee office will help you move forward with creating a sculptured look, while maintaining natural harmony with your other facial features. Dr. Becker is a skilled and experienced cosmetic surgeon, and is dedicated to providing a high level of patient care with a focus on developing customized treatment plans. His expertise can guide you to developing a new look for your nose, including:

  • Repairing a deviated septum
  • Reducing the overall size of the nose
  • Sculpting and contouring a bulbous or misshapen nose tip
  • Altering the width of the bridge of the nose
  • Sculpting and reducing the shape and size of the nostrils
  • Smoothing bumps or dips along the bridge of the nose
  • Repairing damage sustained from past injury
  • Shaping the nose to be in harmony with other facial features

If the appearance or function of your nose is causing you embarrassment or distress, you may be an excellent candidate for cosmetic or functional nose surgery.

Rhinoplasty—What To Expect

The details of cosmetic nose surgery treatment plans vary greatly from patient to patient, but many common elements exist, such as the use of general anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Your procedure will involve incisions on the interior of the nostrils and an incision along the area separating the nostrils, called the columella. The placement of the incisions is designed to heal seamlessly, with little to no evidence of the procedure remaining after the nose has fully healed. Following the incisions, the nose will be reshaped, with cartilage sculpted or removed, and nasal bones re-aligned, and any impediment to the airway (septal deviation or hypertrophied turbinate) is repaired. The skin is then re-draped over the revised structure, and closed with sutures. A plastic splint is placed inside the nose and a second is secured to the bridge of the nose to protect the nose and keep all the structures in place during the healing process.

Patients return home the day of their procedure, and you should arrange to have a relative or friend drive you home. The first several days following your rhinoplasty, you will notice some facial swelling, and may experience some nasal blockage as the result of swollen tissues around the surgical site. This should recede within a few days as the face begins to heal. Cold compresses can be applied to aid the healing process, and to reduce swelling around the nose, eyes, and other parts of the face which may be somewhat puffy following your procedure. Sutures, dressings, and splints are typically removed within a week after surgery, and you can expect to return to your normal daily activities within two weeks.
